Reported ByIrvineCC Admin

With rains on the horizon, and overcast skies, both teams were eager to get the match under way, played at the Centennial Park, Santa Ana.

OC Blues won the toss and decided to make the most of the morning by batting first. Surprisingly the pitch was more dry than most days due to lack of dew. Irvine CC (ICC) captain Abdul, decided to open the bowling with their most successful spinner Bhupi, who almost got a wicket, but a dropped catch ensured that did not happen. Nevertheless some great fielding by Althaf yielded a run out in the very first over, thus setting the tone for the remainder of the match. Four different bowlers were utilized in the first spell with a beautiful delivery from Kaushik that completely rearranged their openers' furniture. Besides some decent partnership between Sai & Ujwal, ICC kept the pressure on the OC Lions Blues, and limited their scoring. Highlight of the game were some tight fielding, and awesome catches by Kaushik, and Atta. OC Lions Blues set 96 runs as a target for ICC.

Prithpal, and Pankaj opened the innings for ICC. With the danger of looming rain, pressure was on the openers to make sure no early wickets were lost, and that the run rate was high at all times. It was a flawless execution by the opening pair, barring the first couple of overs, runs were flowing fairly easily with a few delightful boundaries. Word from the spectators was that it was a treat for them to watch some elegant strokeplay. Nifty running between the wickets ensured that the scoreboard was always ticking, putting constant pressure on the OC Lions Blues fielding unit. This set the tone for the most successful opening partnership for ICC this season. Pankaj got drawn into a slower delivery from Deeptha and succumbed to a well judged catch by Shanta. Abdul walked in during the 8th over to help Prithpal finish the innings. In his customary style, he launched the second ball bowled to him for a massive 6. Runs were continuing to flow when Prithpal got out in the 11th over trying to tackle a turning delivery. With less than 10 runs remaining, Abdul and Kaushik finished off the game in style with 7.1 overs to spare. ICC claimed their 5th victory of the season, and sealed their spot for the playoffs.

Prithpal was adjudged Man of the Match for scoring the highest runs in the game.
